ANNOUNCEMENT ON TURKISH CUSTOMS REGULATION ON MEDICATION

Terms and conditions regarding bringing medication in Turkey by foreigners during their visits to the country is regulated by the circular No: 2011/39 of the Ministry of Customs and Trade of the Republic of Turkey, dated 06.07.2011.

1. Permission for entry in Turkey of an amenable amount of medication for personal treatment either with the passenger himself, or one month prior or after him, is issued conditional upon the submission of a report of a health institution / a medical doctor or a prescription to the customs office, stating the properties of the medicine and the dose that will be needed during the passenger’s stay in Turkey, and, confirming the need for taking the said medication.

2. Likewise, permission for entry into Turkey of medication with narcotic contents is conditional upon submission of a report by a health institution / a medical doctor or a subscription that states the properties of the medicine and the dose that will be needed during the passenger’s stay in Turkey.     

On the other hand, Ministry of Health of the Republic of Turkey has issued the following statement regarding permission to bring in the country of “Methadone”, which is used in treatment of addiction,   or any medication that has methadone in its content:

-       “Patients having methadone treatment outside of Turkey are allowed to bring in the substance during their stay in Turkey, conditional upon the criteria stated by “International Guidelines for National Regulations Concerning Traveller under Treatment with Internationally Controlled Drugs” of the International Narcotic Control Board (INCB).

 

-       Passport information of these people, along with their dates of entry into and exit from the country shall be submitted by the customs officials to relevant Turkish authorities that deal with narcotics.

 

-       Foreign nationals who stay for more than 15 days in Turkey must apply to the Addiction Treatment Centres in Turkey for the continuation of their treatment.”
